The rules of using Localyzed.
Last updated: August 2026. Plain-language version. We've added the legal-esque sections where they need to be legal-esque — jurisdiction, liability, copyright — but kept the tone as clear as we can make it. Use this as the agreement between you and Localyzed.
What Localyzed is
Localyzed is a marketplace. People who live in a city (“locals”) publish recommendations and optionally sell custom itineraries. People who travel there (“travelers”) pay to unlock those recommendations and chat with the local. We facilitate the connection and process payments. We don't curate or fact-check what locals recommend.
When you pay for an unlock, extension, or itinerary, Localyzed is the merchant of record— we collect the payment, remit any applicable taxes, and pay the local their share. You'll see “Localyzed” on your card statement, not the local's name.
Who can use Localyzed
You need to be at least 18 years oldto create an account, whether as a local or a traveler. Localyzed isn't built for minors and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn we've done so, we'll close the account and delete the data.
One account per person, please. You can't hold both a local account and a traveler account under the same email — if you switch sides, we'll migrate the existing one.
Your account
You're responsible for what happens under your account. Don't share your magic-link emails or sign-in codes with anyone. If something looks suspicious, email us right away at support@getlocalyzed.com.
If you're a local
You set your own prices for unlock + itineraries. You keep 60% of unlocks when travelers arrive through Localyzed itself, and 80% of unlocks when they arrive through your own affiliate link. Custom itineraries are a flat 80% to youregardless of source. Payouts land in your Stripe account on Stripe's normal payout schedule.
Your share is net revenue — gross transaction amount minus payment processing fees (Stripe), platform fees, refunds, chargebacks, and applicable taxes. Detailed definitions live in the guide agreement you signed at sign-up.
You agree to keep your picks reasonably accurate and updated. Don't recommend places that don't exist, businesses you have an undisclosed financial relationship with, or anything illegal in the city you're writing about.
If you commit to an itinerary, deliver it on time. If you can't, decline the request — don't leave a traveler hanging. Repeated no-shows are grounds for removal from the platform.
Each delivered itinerary includes 2 rounds of revisions for the traveler. Beyond that, any further changes are at your discretion — you can decline further edits or offer a paid revision. This is spelled out to the traveler in the itinerary chat once they hit the cap.
If you're a traveler
Unlocking a local gives you 45 days of full access to their picks, events, and chat. During that window you can read their whole list, message them directly, and request a custom itinerary if they offer them. When the 45 days end, their picks re-lock, but your chat history stays readable — you don't lose the conversation you already had.
You can extend for another 30 days at a discounted rate ($8 today) whenever you want — before your access ends, after it ends, or years later when you go back to the same city. Extending stacks: if you extend with 10 days left, you get 40 days from that moment; if you extend after expiry, a fresh 30 days start from the moment of purchase.
Custom itineraries are a separate purchase and stay yours permanently. Once you pay for a custom itinerary a local wrote for you, you can revisit it whenever you like — even after your unlock has expired. Each itinerary includes 2 rounds of revisions; anything beyond that is at the local's discretion (they may decline further edits or ask for a small revision fee).
Anyone who unlocked a local before July 2026 keeps permanent access — the 45-day model applies only to unlocks from that date forward.
Treat the local with respect. They're sharing real recommendations; don't harass them or use the chat for anything they didn't sign up for.
Payments + refunds
Payments are processed by Stripe. You authorize Localyzed to charge the payment method you provide for any unlocks, extensions, or itineraries you initiate.
Unlocks and itineraries are digital goods. Once you view a local's picks, notes, avoids, events, or tips, the purchase is considered delivered and is non-refundable. This includes cases where you changed your mind, didn't like the recommendations, or your travel plans shifted — we can't un-deliver content you've already seen.
We'll make it right in the specific cases where we failed to deliver:
- You were charged but the unlock never activated — a technical failure on our end. We'll detect these automatically and refund; if we missed one, email us.
- You paid for a custom itinerary and the local never delivered it. Refund + we help you find another local.
Chat availability isn't a refund trigger — a local being slow to reply, unavailable during your dates, or declining to help with something specific doesn't change the fact that the picks, avoids, events, and tips were delivered. Anything outside the two categories above is handled case-by-case at our discretion — no promises. Email us and we'll take a look, but don't plan around a refund. Standard chargebacks via your bank remain available either way.
Taxes
Prices shown on Localyzed includeany consumption taxes we're required to collect — for example, IVA on services delivered by locals based in Mexico. As the merchant of record, we collect and remit those taxes on your behalf, so you don't need to do anything extra at checkout.
If you're a local, your Stripe payout reflects your share aftertaxes, payment processing fees, and platform fees have been settled. Your onboarding walk-through and the Payouts page in your dashboard show the breakdown for every transaction. Tax reporting for your own income (self-employment, VAT registration, etc.) remains your responsibility — Localyzed doesn't file taxes on your behalf.
Anything more complex than the above (business use of the platform, cross-border edge cases, tax-exempt status) — email us and we'll figure it out.
Content you post
Anything you publish on Localyzed — picks, descriptions, reviews, messages, itineraries — you keep ownership of. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it on the platform, feature it in marketing (blog posts, social, email), and use it for product improvement. We never use private chat content for marketing or for training models — chat stays between you and the local.
How we handle personal data — what we collect, how we use it, and your rights — lives in our Privacy Policy.
Things we don't allow
No spam, no harassment, no impersonation, no fake reviews, no picks for places that don't exist, no content that's illegal in the city you're writing about. We'll remove content and accounts that break these.
Copyright + photo takedown
Locals upload their own photos and we ask them to only use images they have the right to share. If you're the copyright holder of a photo used on Localyzed without your permission, email copyright@getlocalyzed.com with:
- A description of the copyrighted work
- The URL of the Localyzed page where the material appears
- Your name, address, and contact info
- A statement that you're the copyright holder or authorised to act on their behalf, and that your use claim is made in good faith
- Your electronic or physical signature
We review takedown notices promptly and remove infringing content when the claim is valid. Repeat infringers get removed from the platform. If you believe a takedown was filed in error, you can send us a counter-notice at the same address.
Closing your account
You can close your account any time by emailing support@getlocalyzed.com. When you do:
- We deactivate your public profile within 24 hours.
- Payment records (invoices, payouts, refunds) stay in our systems for seven years — US tax law requires it.
- Reviews you left about a local remain visible to keep the review system honest, but your display name is replaced with “Former traveler.”
- Chats with locals stay visible to the local — the record of the conversation is theirs too. Your messages stay attributed to your display name at the time you wrote them.
- Everything else (photos you uploaded, picks you drafted but never published, waitlist entry, push subscriptions) is deleted.
We may suspend or close your account at our discretion for repeated violations of these terms, fraud, harassment, payment abuse, or activity that materially harms other users or the platform. When we do, we tell you why in writing and, where the facts are in dispute, give you a chance to respond before the closure is permanent.
No warranty
Localyzed is provided as-is. We can't guarantee that a recommendation is still accurate, that a restaurant won't close, or that a local will respond instantly. We do our best to make the platform reliable, but use your judgment.
To the extent allowed by law, Localyzed disclaims all implied warranties — merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from a course of dealing or trade usage. Local consumer protection laws may give you additional rights that these terms don't override.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law:
- Localyzed and its founders, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform — including lost profits, lost travel plans, or missed reservations, whether or not we knew the damages were possible.
- Our total liability to you for any claim relating to Localyzed is capped at the greater of US $100 or the total amount you paid Localyzed in the twelve months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
- We're not responsible for the accuracy of any local's recommendation, the availability of any place they list, the quality of a trip you take based on their advice, or anything that happens off-platform between you and a local.
None of this limits liability for things the law won't let us disclaim — our own gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or fraud.
You indemnify us
If a claim is brought against Localyzed because of something youdid — content you posted, terms you violated, someone else's rights you infringed, or a law you broke — you agree to defend and hold Localyzed and its people harmless from that claim, including reasonable legal fees and costs. We'll give you prompt notice of any claim and let you control the defence, subject to our right to participate at our own cost.
Governing law + disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods doesn't apply.
Before filing anything formal, please email support@getlocalyzed.com and give us 30 days to try to work it out. Almost everything is solvable that way.
Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts sitting in Delaware, and both of us consent to jurisdiction there. Nothing in this section stops either of us from bringing an eligible claim in small-claims court where you live.
Changes to these terms
We'll update the “Last updated” date at the top when we change anything material. For changes that affect existing transactions or accounts, we'll also email everyone with an active account.
